  2. Hey y'all!

I think this significant drop is yet again clear proof of the fact that the band's fanbase is made of a very solid core but gets little newcomers. Us fans buy the singles, so they rocket to the top of the charts, but since we only buy one copy (damn us!), it inevitably drops on the second or so week...

Let's face it, we love an 80's band -sigh-

  3. Same thing with an artist like Depeche Mode releasing a single... initially a high chart placing, but then drops out of sight and off the radio stations that gave it a chance.

These days it's down to the hardcore fans of both bands (for the most part) keeping these singles alive. You gotta love Craig's "support the singles" page... I call WXPN every day and they've been great about playing the three new Cure singles currently out.

  4. abhi are you from the Philly area?

Well I agree that WXPN is really good about playing the new stuff quite often but more so on the web broadcasts & not so much on the radio broadcasts. Well at least from what I've heard on their station so far. Still it's great that they are playing them!

  5. Hi cure_kitty,

Yes, I'm in Philly, are you?

I listen to XPN mostly over the air, and in a four hour span they had played all three of the new Cure singles... I was thoroughly impressed, along with the fact that the DJs seem to really know a lot about and respect Robert's long career.

  7. hi abhi!
Yeah to finding another Philly Cure Fan! I live in King of Prussia! Do you live in the city or the suburbs?

Wow that's great about WXPN playing all 3 singles in one night. Who would have thought Philly had such a cool alternative station with YRocks! And you’re right, the dj's are quite knowledgeable about The Cure and loads of other bands too. I've requested the singles a few times & they always play them.

I tend to listen to the web cast more at work than the radio broadcast at night so I don't hear much of what they play at night. But it's awesome to know that they are playing the songs at night too. I just discovered YRocks was in existence from Craig’s “Support the Single” post. I rarely listen to the radio, so I didn’t even know it’s been around for a while. They are a decent station & I'm quite happy to see that they play some great stuff. Hell of a lot better than 104.5 but still they got Robert to the interview contest. It’s too bad that 104.5 is not as accommodating as YRocks with playing the new stuff. I've heard each song two or three times on this station when they 1st came out but now nothing. And they ignore my requests too. All they ever play is JLH, LS & POY. So I’ve made the switch to WXPN & YRocks. It’s a much cooler place to listen to music.

BTW did you go to the Philly Cure show? I’m sure you did. Wasn’t it Awesome!!!! Oh I wish the tour was still happening, I miss the tour chat on here.

  8. The 'burbs! In fact the KOP Costco is my Saturday home-away-from-home. Love that place!

Alas, I missed the Spectrum show... first Cure tour I've missed since Wish. If they come back, I will certainly be there.

You know the interesting thing about the times I've heard the new Cure songs? All during the day... during XPN's regular programming (I'm not even home at night to listen to their YRocks "alternative" broadcast)... so this is the everyday XPN guys playing and promoting the Cure in the morning and afternoon.

The trick with the Cure's October 2008 album is that alternative radio won't be as good to them as they were during the band's US commercial peak (late 80s, early 90s). But now stations that are under the AAA banner (Adult Album Alternative) such as XPN are the ones who will play the new Cure.

And I love the KOP mall too. :)

    cheers,
