  3. I see Robert is into the autumn mood with the colors.

I'm not liking it much myself. Boring! Something new would have been better and maybe the flag wasn't a bad idea either???

    ReplyDelete
  4. Has that "thrown together at the last minute" sort of feel to it. I wonder why? : )

    ReplyDelete
  5. What a brilliant idea -- all 4 singles covers combined, so people really know there are good normal versions of these songs. I'll buy it for the one by The Cure's opening band.

    ReplyDelete
  6. craig: because it was?

    was that your point? ;)

  7. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  8. I'll wait to hear the previews before even thinking about preordering it.

    ReplyDelete
  9. 8.99 on Amazon UK? You're having a laugh, surely! For an EP?

I will buy this because I'm a completist, but that's waaaaay over the odds... that's like 18 bucks, translated into dollars... no chance am I paying that.. it won't be available at my local HMV, same as the the Perfect Boy (all the other singles were though) so I hope it's a similar price to all other territories, or Amazon see sense and bring the price down a little...

    ReplyDelete
  10. Welfare: That price is for the import. There might be a cheaper domestic version that hasn't been listed yet.

  12. Can we just skip this EP and go straight to the album?? Pretty please?

Oh, I asked this question in the other thread and I guess everybody had moved on by then, but is it confirmed that the new album is going to be called Dream Thirteen? I hope not...

    ReplyDelete
  13. Any news if this will be available on vinyl?

    ReplyDelete
  14. As much as I love The Cure, I just can't get excited by this. It would be one thing if Robert mixed the songs himself, but having otherwise mediocre bands mess with Cure material kills any potential enthusiasm about the project for me. This remix album just serves as a reminder that we were suppose to be getting the new album next month. Robert's recent cryptic comments have led me to wonder if we're even getting the new album in 2008.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Thanks Muld!

Ronald: Haven't seen any listings or mentions of vinyl.

    ReplyDelete
  16. jpx - Don't even go there, if there's no new album this year I'm gonna...be really really angry.

    ReplyDelete
  17. there MUST be a new album. period.

it would be really fucking STUPID for there not to be. what would be the point to the singles releases then?

plus: i NEED uts and brdb - and hopefully abink.

    ReplyDelete
  18. i meant there must be a new one this year.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yeah, I might go on a kill spree if this album is delayed any further. I'm concerned that it's the middle of August and there's still no word. Doesn't there have to be some lead time to press the CD and create the art work? Wouldn't it have to be finished at this point? Granted I have no idea about how these things work but boy oh boy am I tired of being teased with the promise of a new album.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yeah, but usually the cover art isn't leaked until a month or two before the album, at least from my experience. Granted, we're almost there, but I'm not terribly worried. I think we'll see the new album in October as planned for sure. Like cat said, it'd be completely pointless to do this huge four singles in four months campaign without an album to immediately follow.

    ReplyDelete
  21. well, i am being extremely presumptuous

    BUT

i think the album doesn't NEED anymore time

    yes, these things take time

but RSX said back in *06* that he should be SHOT if the album didnt come out by the end of that year

    SO

    WTF?!

    ReplyDelete
  22. atleast this'll be the best thing these other "bands" have done with their lives...except 65days...i liked them..

    ReplyDelete
  23. What has the timeline been for this album? When was it first mentioned and how many delays have there been? Doesn't Robert spend a lot of time watching rugby and isn't it almost rugby season?

    ReplyDelete
  24. todd: I think it will come out in oct too.

i dont see why he would delay it any further if the singles releases are to have any impact.

    ReplyDelete
  25. jpx: i think he announced the album in late 05 or early 06 - and since then it has been delay after delay.

btw, i heard that chinese democracy might actually be seeing the light of day soon. lol.

it has only been delayed 14 years... so 2 years suddenly aint lookin' so bad. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  26. anybody ever try the whole foods brand soda called 'cherry vanilla creme'? it's pretty good.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Cat: The singles had an impact? Where?
And put me down for thinking 09 now. It would make so much more sense.

    ReplyDelete
  28. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  29. why does it make more sense ror 09, craig?

i just mean that it makes more sense (to me anyway) to release it close to schedule given that the whole point was for the singles to lead up to the release of the album.

And dont forget that while singles sales may mean very little in the scope of things, they did chart well sales wise. That's something. I really don't care either way - I just want the damn album SOON, not in 09!

    ReplyDelete
  30. mb: i like the black cherry cola myself.

    ReplyDelete
  31. black cherry's pretty good too, cat.

    ReplyDelete
  32. What? Now even Craig is thinking '09?

Oh help us all if that's the case. :(

    ReplyDelete
  33. craig has insider info, i bet. :-/

    we're doomed.

what more needs to be done? are they re-recording everything?!

i love this band and most of these fucking songs but honestly they're just a mess organization-wise.

    ReplyDelete
  34. and to think that my two favorite bands - deerhunter and the cure - were releasing albums in the same month! what a dream scenario that was.

    dammit!

    ReplyDelete
  35. lol, did you see the size of that thing? heeeeeeeeeeeh.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I guess nobody cares, but since 30 sec. to Mars and The Cure have now "collaborated", Leto is being sued by his label for failing to deliver 3 albums.

I wished he had failed to deliver his remix. Oh well...

    ReplyDelete
  37. now i'm really depressed. i dont think the cure will ever release this album due to some of the mixed reactions. i think it could be a great album.. i would very happily buy the album with uts/brdb/tpb/fs/too/abink and i am sure there are three or MORE fabulous fucking songs like those to make it an 9-12 track album.

robert, just send me the remaining songs so i can make my own album.

ah hell - i guess we already have a mini album with the singles and b-sides. and i am very happy with those.

still, though, i want the album. *sulks*

    ReplyDelete
  38. OK. Really? 2009?

I guess, 30th year and Robert could say he's releasing it in 2009 and it will be the last album The Cure ever makes or something equally dramatic *remembers what Simon said about never touring again* and then hopefully tour the US next spring/summer again. After that, we'll all have to find new hobbies. :(

    ReplyDelete
  39. Thanks for the timeline, CCAT. It wouldn't be so bad if Robert didn't keep postponing it. If he had said 2 years ago that it would come out October 2008 that would've been fine. It's the cancelled tour and constant date changing that's annoying. Is anyone here in the music business? If all the songs have been recorded, how much more effort is it to pull the album together, a day?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Cat: An 09 release would tie into the 30th anniversary, and there would be a better chance of a full tour.
It would give Uni more time to put a campaign together, and I think they would be much more supportive, etc.

And it's just an opinion, not a fact. As of today, the album is still scheduled for an Oct. 08 release.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Would EVERYONE please just SHUT UP and stop with these doomsday scenarios and complaints about the quality of the bands doing the remixes? It's incredibly irritating to hear the same whining over, and over, and over, joined by new complaints. Just WAIT. Crying over possible split milk is not going to hurry things along.

    ReplyDelete
  42. JPX: From what I've been told, they like to have two months from the time the album has been turned in. The artwork has to be printed, interviews have to be arranged, promotional materials put together, ads bought, etc.
It can happen quicker, but 2 months is the norm.

    ReplyDelete
  43. jpx: don't get me wrong. when the album is released all of this will be forgotten with me. but it IS annoying, all the delays. but ultimately its about the music. if the cure are flaky and dorky that's their business. i dont think rsx owes me a damn thing, in the end. but i WANT the album very badly. and i dont think it does the band any good if they are looking to attract new listeners to constantly delay and so on. but whatever. i mean, i was PISSED about the tour postponement, but i got over it when i saw them - and when i realized that life is like that. i just think they cant possibly improve on things at this point. if some people dont like the new singles, that's their problem. the singles cannot be improved. they are what they are. i like them, personally. so if they are re-recording, that's just a waste of time, imo. they could remix a bit to turn the vocals down but beyond that, what could they be doing?? too many cooks spoil the broth. don't overcook the album. release it in oct and let the naysayers rip it apart. they will do so regardless. its their way.

    *really sulking now*

*going for a walk in this lovely humidity*

    ReplyDelete
  44. I think the problem stems from this album not being a double.

If the other 22 songs (from the 33) are as good as the ones we have already heard then it must be a struggle fitting the best on one disc.

    ReplyDelete
  45. crying over possible spilt milk will fix EVERYTHING. it's been documented.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Again, the album is still scheduled for an Oct. release. No need to sulk, cry, pout, or storm Castle Cure with pitchforks and torches.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Awe CCAT, you stole my line, I was going to comment on "Spilt Milk", which is a track I love. Shawn, I think all the whining is cathartic. Most of us are a bit frazzled about all the delays and the whining just comes from loving this band and wanting the new stuff asap. Of course it's pointless to whine, but we all need to let out some steam once in a while. Craig, thanks for the info. Hopefully this means that the album is going to press as I sit here bitching. It's hard to imagine that Robert would wait to release the album because he's waiting for the upcoming 30th anniversary. He's had plenty of time to consider the anniversary. Perhaps there are some other special things in the pipeline? We know that they're working on a DVD for one thing. Maybe we'll finally get the other remastered albums in 2009?

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'll try not to do any of those, Craig. But **when** the next delay is announced, I can't be held responsible for my actions. ;-)

Castle Cure: ROFL. King Robert The Benevolent Tyrant.

Oh, and Shawn, yes: I am not bleating about the remixes. I don't care about those either way. I am all about the album and the orgaaasmic UTS.

I am bleating about the album delays, but only cathartically, as JPX said. If RSX wants to delay the album for infinity, let him. It won't taint my view about his MUSIC, which I mostly LOVE with all parts of my anatomy. ;-)

    Mmmmkay, then.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Hey, how about RS and company simply release two songs each month forever.

    ReplyDelete
  50. kentbutabi, you win this prize for being the smartest person in the thread.

    ReplyDelete
  51. *awards prize*

ok craig, close the thread- we're done here.

    ReplyDelete
  52. You're welcome, Craig.

I think jpx is onto something about the album, cat; Robert hoped the album would be done and started releasing the singles before the entire album was finished or at least the tracklisting is determined. Don't believe anything until it's in your hands!

I don't mind the wait, as long as it makes the songs better. What if Robert decided to make some of the songs released as singles like "Sleep" and "The Only One" harder? Wouldn't that be maybe cool? The longer he takes, I have a feeling the better it will be. No problem on my part.

Mogwai's album is coming out in September. However, I may be itching for a Cure album by Christmas time if the new promised experimental U2 album sucks as much as the last 2.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Yeah, man, what the hell happened to U2? Once a great band they've just been pumping out adult contemporary rock over the past 2-3 albums. At least Robert still making great music.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Muldfeld: Well, I like SWID as is and am not sure it can be much improved. I find it to be the least inspiring of the singles, though. I still like it pretty well - I like its ethereality. However, if it were left OFF the album I would not complain. But yes - if they made some songs even groovier that would be cool. BUT DONT FUCK WITH FREAKSHOW, that's all I'm sayin', yo.

JPX: Some would say that the Cure DO make shitty music like U2 now. I would beg and plead to differ. I am sure some people will rip me to shreds for that remark. BRING IT ON MOFOS!

    ReplyDelete
  55. CCAT, "JPX: Some would say that the Cure DO make shitty music like U2 now." As a shrink I can tell you with my professional opinion that we call those people "crazy people".

    ReplyDelete
  56. JPX: LOL. Well, *I* love the new stuff, so that's all that matters. The naysayers can kiss my mammaries.

    Sorry Shawn. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  57. What genius came up with the artwork?

    ReplyDelete
  58. mmmm..... I can live with an album delay if there is a guaranteed tour that come with it!

    ReplyDelete
  59. The artwork isn´t anything from the outer world, but i like this one more than the previous "pink-purple" cover.

But which is the final artwork ?

I hope no more delays, and i think since a long time that would be such a great pity if the album due to delays and delays be over-produced and most of the songs losses their beauty, but in the end i´m very confident in Robert´s choices.

Also i like a lot the new songs as well, so i´m happy so far.

I know it´s hard but no much to do than be patient and expect soon for some great news for The CURE plans for the future.

    :)

    ReplyDelete
  60. is it just in cd format? anybody know?

    ReplyDelete
  61. i don't care anymore. i just want another tour!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Sofia and Elise have the right idea! :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. Argh. Okay feel better for that.

I just want them to come to NZ one last time, if thats all that happens I will be happy.

Right now I am wondering if the remasters will come out this yr. I am presuming not! given it is already near the end of August.

    sigh......hurumph........SIGH

    ReplyDelete
  64. Not that it has anything to do with the HS pre-order, but I found this and I am wondering if any of you Spanish-speaking Cure peeps would be willing to do a translated transcript??

    ReplyDelete
  65. That's just it with "Sleep", jpx. They could easily add a few more melodies. Remember Fascination Street? There were so many layers. "Sleep" is fine, but it's not as good as anything on "Wish". Take even a song like "High" which I've never liked. I much preferred the video version because it had this very slight quick-paced synth melody that added so much to the song; it kind of sounded like a harpsichord.

"Sleep" needs a bit more work to me. Also, "The Only One" is nice, but it's nowhere near as complex and unique and beautiful as every pop song on "Wish" besides "High". It could be even better!

The more work Robert does, the more likely it will be we get a better album with better songs.

However, I also love "Freakshow"; I think it might be better than "Hot Hot Hot". I sometimes wonder if it's too short, but maybe that's why it's no neat; love the little piano bit, too!

Still haven't heard "Perfect Boy" or most of the b-sides -- intentionally. I'm saving them, especially if the album gets delayed.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Please stop posting fake info here. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  67. i reckon Robert is on holiday - the weather is dismal here on the South Coast - I don't think he likes endless rain as much as he'd like us to think...

    ReplyDelete
  68. As a simple high desert caveman, this blogging thing is a bit over my head. The topic said "Hypnagogic Pre-Orders", so I clicked on it, but it linked to "New Cure Album could or could not be out in October - Discuss" :)

Sorry - I've been waiting a week for the appropriate topic to post stuff about the new EP.

First mighty Amazon lists the EP for $7.49 so we think our $5.99 is in their face. but then we fall for the banana in the tailpipe and they then change their price to $4.99. curse their price shiftiness. at any rate - we're going to solicit some alternate suppliers and see if we can match their price. If that happens, anyone who has pre-ordered already would get the lower price.

But what i really wanted to post here was that i noticed that there has been no release announced for this EP outside of the US and Australia. I was hoping there would be a European release and was wondering if anyone would be interested in us offering the European CD. But more importantly, was hoping there would be European 12" vinyl to match the 7" singles this summer. Anyone hear anything about either?

    chris

    ReplyDelete
  69. Let's also not forget the money is for a good cause, and whether £8.99 or $8.99, or whatever..is not a lot to ask...

    ReplyDelete
  70. But it's true, Craig - I do want a tour ;P

    ReplyDelete
  71. Muldfeld, Freakshow has been my favorite single and I agree that it's too short. There's something about it that gets stuck in my head. Love it! I disagree with you on Sleep, though, I totally dig it. I've never been able to get over the weird vocal effect in Perfect Boy, which kind of ruins the song for me. Can't wait for UTS and ABINK.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Hi everyone! It's my first post here, whereas I'm a fan of The Cure since '92.
Possibly, it's not such a new idea, but what is Robert thinking about when while reading all these our posts? A man, who knows all ins and outs... I guess that's a bit ridiculous for him doing that.
Indeed, having a writers block its hard to release grat songs.
Having great songs it's hard to hold them in the pocket, while millions of the fans widely angry to get another portion of new stuff.
It's also hard to think about business stuff. Not to choose the best songs, as someone has wrote above, but solve a system problem - how to sell those CDs, f''g knowing, that immediately after album release, there will be millions of downloads omitting Robert's(and not only)pocket.
Imo, the real problem is this.

p.s. My personal favorites are FS, AKOS, TPB (just only for its great second refrain)
p.s. Hope that you would forgive me for my awesome english, i usually use another one:) At least it's not a grammary teaching page, eh?:)
    Thank you

    ReplyDelete
  73. Just a bit more. Let's see at it all that going on optimistic way.

We have AlREADY got 4 singles and 4 b-sides. Sometimes it takes 1-1,5 years after album release.

Me, personally, love-love-love Porl's manner of guittar playing and I finally happy that he's back in the band's line-up. No matter how great will be the songs on the album, but his input is matchless.

All new tracks (may be except of Without you)are much better than from 04 release.Imo. It's inspiring.

So let things to go in their way.
Awaiting is pleasant feeling. Rather than nostalgy, at least.

And, of course, as soos as we get new album we immediately would start to want another new one. Don't we? So it's an eternal kind of things. Let's keep patient.

    ReplyDelete
  74. lol, well Alexander, if you enjoy waiting, then you've been blessed this time!
    Cheers! o_q

    ReplyDelete
  75. I don't wait for new great songs. I'm affraid of overestimated expectations. All the best in this life we're getting suddenly.
Regarding The Cure, (I love them too) they always did 'farewell'spectacles as a pose, and now, this delay maybe is a part of "wish us more" game, who knows.

    ReplyDelete
  76. or RS has buggered off on holiday - there's no way he'd put up with this weather

sorry folks, raging at the weather today - another washout UK summer

    pissing it down

    ReplyDelete
  77. muld: In my view, and I could be wrong, the lack of musical complexity in the singles is deliberate. The b-sides are slightly more complex and interesting. I think the singles are meant to be stripped down to achieve a more immediate effect. I am not sure how SWID could be improved - as I stated, I just think it's kind of lackluster. I do like the vocals on it a lot, though. But the structure of the song is uninspiring to me. I don't want them to make it more complex, though. I would prefer the less complex songs to stay that way; I am sure we will get a few more complex songs on the album. Honestly, I wish AKOS and DU were on the album.

As far as Freakshow - its brevity lends it power.

And TPB's vocal effects totally grew on me - they add an unusual atmosphere. I truly hated them at first. I like both the unembellished live version a little more, though.

  82. ohh friday im in love with the only one,the cure are cure the perfect boys whom play with our curified minds and ahh.. i feel they will give us, twilight friends their perfect mix, so lets wait, if we dont have wait in our life, we have nothing so... i hope they make mixed up again this time catchin the 30 years of fame, with the perfect djs.... then we all know the cure.. is the cure and they never die...

    ReplyDelete
  83. HDnet has The Cure listed as "Coming this Fall." No date is given, but it's the first I've seen on their website.

    YAY! Charlotte show :)

    ReplyDelete
  84. Well, chicken littles, I for one am stoked about this. :^P

    ReplyDelete
  85. I'm stoked for all of this, personally. I expect great things - and rightly, I think - from the nearly incomparable 65daysofstatic. The emo mixes might even be interesting. I'm all optimism tonight, don't bring me down....

    ReplyDelete
  86. I know what you mean by simplicity, Cat, and maybe I haven't heard the singles enough, but imagine if "Fascination Street" didn't have that guitar line in the background and one of the synth lines that starts up the "Mixed Up" version. It would be very good, but not great.

I'm wondering if a bit more layering is needed to make it even better. "Sleep" would be even cooler if it changed a bit after the chorus with another melodic layer. That cool whine in the background at the start of the song adds some neat tension, for example. Maybe another guitar line should be added to Porl's wah-wah. I think I hear the bearest piano/keyboard in the second half of the song, but it's not pronounced enough or there's not enough of it. I also wonder if the sitar keyboard sound is a bit too loud, in contrast.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Muld: I don't think there is much hope for SWID. It's a good song which will never be great, IMO. FS and TPB - now those are great songs! :-)

And Fascination Street has always bored me to tears. I know, I know... sacrilege! :-P

  88. I just called Earshot in Greenville to pre-order my copy of Hypnagogic States but the guy said there was really no need because they have 10 copies on order already. He got my phone number and said he'd call me when it came in - and said there really shouldn't be a reason it wouldn't be there right on the 16th.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I agree with the poster who said we already have a mini-album of sorts. That's what I'm afraid we will be living with for the time being - for me, I am listening to the eight released songs along with the Fuse live version of Underneath the Stars. 34 minutes of new CURE - that's it!!
